A Bad Wind

A Bad Wind

This Raku pot has a lichen glaze that was poured on.  The remainder of the body was smoked in the post-firing reduction.   The lid has an attached wooden handle with glass and stone beads and a blue jay feather.

The Clamorous Owl

The Clamorous Owl

This carved pot has a quote from Shakespeare on the side. “The clamorous owl that nightly hoots and wonders at our quaint spirits.  Sing me now asleep.”  It has two owl carvings, one owl perched on a tree branch and the other owl in flight.  There is also a carving of a full moon.  Atop the lid, you’ll find a wooden branch with a little clay owl peeking around the side.

Gathered Basket

Gathered Basket

You may have heard of “gathering baskets”… utilitarian baskets used to hold items, mainly functional.  Well, I’ve titled this “Gathered Basket” as I gathered lots of different materials to create this basket!  The body is clay that has been stretched while thrown on the pottery wheel.  It was fired in a Raku kiln using the Obvara technique to give it a burnt, wood-like look.  I then wove a birch bark panel into the side, raffia on the top and added some glass beads and a found wooden handle.
