“Of Winter’s Lifeless World”

This crackle pot has been hand carved and painted with underglaze before the clear crackle glaze is applied.  The post firing reduction allows smoke to penetrate the cracks and accentuate them.  The images on the pot depict various species of trees in winter.  Poetry carved into the pot reads, “Of winter’s lifeless world each tree, now seems a perfect part; Yet each one holds summer’s secret, deep down within it’s heart.”

Crackle Funghi Pot

Crackle Funghi Pot

This pot is made with two types of crackle techniques!  It is made with a crackle texture when it is thrown on the potter’s wheel and then glazed with a transparent raku glaze that crackles after the firing.  It has a rich amber hue to the finish.  A “mushroom-like” piece of driftwood is wired to the lid for a special handle.

Hand Built Raku Bowl

Hand Built Raku Bowl

This bowl was hand built of coils with a slabbed rim and stamped.  It was fired in the raku process with a copper luster glaze.  When it was reduced in the trash can with combustibles after firing, the glaze changed to a copper luster color.  The rim, which was not glazed turned black from the smoke.
