Obvara Pots

Obvara Pots

The Obvara technique is from 19 C Eastern Europe.  It was used to seal the pots to make them suitable for functional pieces.  They all start out as bare clay (hence the term “naked”) but post firing, they are submerged in a mixture of flour, water, sugar and yeast!  This mixture roasts onto the pots and seals them!  They have a wonderful, earthy aesthetic.
